My overall recommendation for XP: When running into application compatibility problems, first try using Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit (and its supplied "shims") to fix issues. Most customers can solve a large majority of their issues this way and, thus, not subject themselves to the additional support costs of running two OS versions. Use XP Mode where you have to, and if you do, make sure you manage and maintain it just like you would when running XP in stand-alone mode.
