Urging enterprises to redefine security strategy with the rise of targeted attacks, security software and services provider Trend Micro unveiled Smart Protection Strategy (SPS) today.
"Information democracy is important for us," said Eva Chen, CEO and co-founder, Trend Micro, at the Trend Micro APAC Media Summit 2013 in Singapore. "Data centre security as well as an 80-year-old grandmother sending an email securely, both are important to us."
"What Trend Micro provides is not a product but a state of mind," she said, referring to the philosophy of her company that completes 25 years of serving the market.
She pointed out that today, perimeter defence and conventional security have become less effective against advanced targeted attacks. "In this new reality, customers need a smart protection strategy," she said.
Trend Micro's SPS is meant to help enterprises redefine their security strategy in the wake of more sophisticated, stealthy and persistent cyber threats, she said.
She explained that the new strategy covers three focus areas with new solution concepts - custom defence against customised targeted cyber attacks, complete end-user protection for exchange of information in today's bring-your-own-device (BYOD) era, and cloud security optimised for data centres.
"The question is no longer if an organisation will suffer a security breach, but when, as cyber criminals become more sophisticated, persistent and stealthy," she said. "Cyber attackers are now good at customising their attacks to focus on specific people, systems, and vulnerabilities inside the targeted organisations. Spear-phishing emails remain the primary means of delivering malware, while a wide variety of tactics and tools including remote access Trojans have been used to attack covertly and maintain persistent unauthourised foothold of your network."
Referring to her company's reputation for deep discovery tools (part of SPS), she said that in the recent cyber attacks in South Korea, none of her company's customers were affected.
