Malaysia's Science, Technology and Innovation ministry (MOSTI) has launched Cyber Range Malaysia, a virtual environment used for cyber technology development and cyber warfare training.
"With the launch of Cyber Range Malaysia, organisations can now utilise state-of-the-art facilities to simulate cyber-attacks," said MOSTI minister YB. Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau, during the recent launch ceremony officiated at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology (KICT), IIUM Campus, Gombak Selangor, Malaysia.
"This testing and validating of their systems should result in greater resilience of their critical network infrastructure and operations. Cyber Range Malaysia utilises technologies similar to some of the largest cyber ranges around the world such as the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency National Range," said Madius.
Cyber Range Malaysia was developed under a public-private collaboration between national ICT security agency CyberSecurity Malaysia, the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and local cyber security company Cyber Intelligence.

The launch of Cyber Range Malaysia will also provide an education and training platform for Malaysia to introduce Certified Cyber Defender Associate (CCDA) courses for network administrators, information security officers and C-level information technology professionals.
In his speech, the minister confirmed that CyberSecurity Malaysia intends to train and certify 10,000 cyber security professionals by 2020.
"It is vital to develop a strong pool of cyber security talent in order to build a dynamic cyber security eco-system that can support Malaysia's transformation into a high income digital economy," added Madius.
"With Cyber Range Malaysia, we hope to encourage more to join the profession as well as enable cyber security professionals to hone their skills and stay a step ahead in the ever-evolving cyber security landscape," said the minister.
YBhg. Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Zaleha Kamaruddin, rector of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) said: "The collaboration between CyberSecurity Malaysia and IIUM's has resulted in the formation of the CSM-IIUM Cyber Security Centre of Excellence (CoE), where Cyber Range Malaysia is one of its products.
"IIUM is proud to host Cyber Range Malaysia that will churn out Malaysian Cyber Defenders to protect our country's organisations and enterprises network, through its training and services. This will eventually lead to our nation's strategic goal to become self-reliant," added Dr Zaleha.
