Gemalto has been reclassified as a "Technology - Software" sector company, the digital security company announced on Tuesday (2 April).
The change was made by the Industry Classification Benchmark ("ICB"). Gemalto was earlier classified in the "Industrials - Electronic equipment" sector.
The Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB) is a global reference system categorising over 70,000 companies and 75,000 securities worldwide.
This change took effect on 18 March 2013, the company said in a statement.
This reclassification reflects the value Gemalto brings to customers in close to 200 countries, the company said in its statement. "We appreciate and welcome ICB's choice to reclassify Gemalto to the Technology - Software category," said Olivier Piou, CEO of Gemalto. "It evidences our company transformation and expertise. We are positioned at the heart of the digital and wireless worlds, enabling our clients to offer trusted and convenient digital services to billions of individuals."
