Flavour of the month or here to stay
The entire idea behind Phewtick is to break the ice between two strangers by scanning QR codes.
Getting paid to do just this has helped rocket the iOS and Android app to the top spot in the free app category of the Singapore Apple app store last week.
According to Phewtick, Singapore now has 180,000 users and is only slightly behind the 200,000 users in Malaysia. This easily makes up 70 percent of the apps total user base.
But the issue posed by an article from sgentrepenuers.com is a resounding one; how long will the novelty last? Simply scanning a QR code for points doesn't sound especially entertaining in the long run.
This remains to be seen, with 80 percent of users still active weekly, the app might surprise naysayers yet.
"We are definitely positive about this situation. Truly innovative ideas and products have always produced some enthusiastic fans and some persisting critics," Phewtick added.
Phewtick is now available on iOS and Android, with the company seeking out engineers to develop on Windows Phone 8 and Blackberry 10.
