Computer company Asus in collaboration with software firm Garena has held its inaugural Republic of Gamers (ROG) Champions Cup 2016 event in Malaysia.

Several years of increasing emphasis on PC gaming by Asus has led up to the event at Sunway Pyramid Ice Rink, which was attended by about 1,500 ROG and League of Legends fans. Malaysia's national ICT agency Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) said gaming has been included in the national regional hub vision.

After two months of qualifying rounds for participating 149 teams, the grand final was the best of five rounds for the final two teams, "Missing in Action" and "Raiding Squad", where both battled for the top spot in the League of Legends (LoL).

The team "Missing in Action" won the grand final with a leading score of 3 - 1 and walked away with the tournament grand prize - RM 5,000 (US$19,940) cash and 5 units of ROG G752VT Gaming Laptop for the winning team members. As for the runner-up, team "Raiding Squad", the team members each won RM 3,000 (US$11,964) cash and Nomad Gaming Backpack, GX1000 Gaming Mouse + GM50 Gaming Mouse Pad.

Found in 2006, the Republic of Gamers brand (ROG) was formed to deliver the most innovative hard-core hardware for dedicated gamers. In addition, ROG supports the global gaming industry by sponsoring events such as PAX, BlizzCon and Dreamhack.
