Customers in Malaysia are benefiting from an increasingly competitive Telecoms sector with the latest salvo being U Mobile's offering of no additional roaming charges in 12 selected countries for postpaid customers.
Jasmine Lee, U Mobile's chief marketing officer, said the new service, called U Mobile's Data Backpack, has been made available from 14 April 2016 to the company's postpaid customers on the P70, i90, i130, UD95 & UD135 plans for both principal and member lines.
Lee said the countries where U Mobile's Data Backpack may be used include Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Philippines.
"U Mobile is a data centric telco, we are always innovating to ensure that our customers get the best value and best quality data experience possible," she said. "We believe that U Mobile's Data Backpack will be a huge benefit to our digitally savvy customers who can now tap into their postpaid plan data quota when overseas without incurring any extra cost."
If customers on U Mobile's Data Backpack exceed their postpaid plan data quota while they are in any of these twelve countries, they have the option of purchasing an additional 1.5GB booster at RM10 (US$2.59), which will be valid for three days, Lee said.
She also announced an enhanced roaming plan called 'U Data Roam 10' for the same 12 countries for U Mobile customers not on the qualifying plans listed earlier. This new service will allow customers access to high speed unlimited data at RM10 per day.
U Mobile's Data Backpack and U Data Roam 10, subscribers will be required to manually select U Mobile's preferred roaming partner when they arrive at any one of the 12 countries.
