The case for digital workplace transformation at Emery Oleochemicals: interviews

AvantiKumar | April 4, 2016
Computerworld Malaysia asked Emery Oleochemicals' Ruj Purnariksha and Avanade's Dato' Subra Suppiah to talk in-depth about the pros and cons of digital transformation in Asia's manufacturing sector.

As more smart technologies enter the workforce, an enormous amount of value to the business can be added from automated, intelligent machines. Think of it like a symphony.

One where machines and humans come together, making for a beautiful, symphonic delivery of services. It's all about orchestrating this "superhuman" augmented workforce. It's time to change the conversation from "what if" smart machines enter the workforce, to "how to use" these technologies to enhance humans and human judgment and action in the physical world. But it's also important to keep in mind that the changing workforce encompasses more than just smart machines - keeping people front and centre will be a key to success.

In addition, we have a couple of projects around Digital Transformation, Collaboration, Customer Relationship Management and Cloud services. However, at this point, they are confidential.

In July 2015, Accenture and Avanade was named 2015 Microsoft Alliance Partner of the Year. We were recognised for the eighth consecutive year and 11th year overall. Microsoft also awarded Accenture and Avanade with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Partner of the Year and Country Partner of the Year in Italy. As Avanade celebrates its fifteenth year in business, these awards reinforce the company's status as one of the most successful joint ventures in the technology industry and, with Accenture, as the most frequently recognized Microsoft partners.

As voted by Microsoft global sales, Accenture and Avanade received Microsoft's Alliance Partner of the Year award for demonstrating business excellence and customer satisfaction in delivering innovative Microsoft solutions. The Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Partner of the Year award recognizes Accenture and Avanade's deep industry and technology expertise in delivering Microsoft Dynamics CRM-based client innovation.

Avanade Singapore also won three Microsoft Partner of the Year awards this year in recognition of its ability to deliver outstanding results for clients on the Microsoft platform. The awards include:

  • Microsoft Country Partner of the Year 2015
  • Cloud Platform Partner of the Year 2015
  • Business Intelligence Partner of the Year 2015

Together, Accenture and Avanade have collaborated on more than 10,000 Microsoft-based business and public service projects for more than 4,000 global clients.

As a parting note, smart technologies bring about significant benefits. While business and IT leaders know their world is going to dramatically change, 93 percent of global respondents told Avanade they are already investing in smart technologies. Why? Because they see significant economic and other benefits stemming from the increased use of smart technologies in the enterprise.

For example, global business and IT leaders predict they will see an increase of more than one-third (33 percent) in revenues from the use of smart technologies over the next five years. Other benefits cited by respondents include increased efficiency, an improved customer experience, improved decision making, as well as increased employee satisfaction and retention.

Smart machines clearly offer benefits to the enterprise, including the opportunity to increase revenues, optimise efficiencies and better serve their customers in a digital world. Avanade helps clients around the world deploy these technologies every day in their organizations-and we see our clients realizing results today as they evolve their digital workplaces.

But the enterprise isn't the only beneficiary in this brave new world. With more smart machines working in the enterprise, people are freed up to concentrate on critical business issues and innovation; to decide on which course of action artificial intelligence should take in certain instances-or even to override decisions made by machines.

Collaboration, communication and problem solving will be paramount in the digital workplace of the future. That will require technologies that enable those workplace shifts to happen- whether they be in an actual office or as information workers do their jobs wherever they happen to be. And it will require that the enterprise harness mobility, the cloud and connected things to support their information workers.

We think an exciting era looms large for the enterprise and employees alike: one in which technologies get smarter and free us up to work on more strategic initiatives that drive value, revenues and job satisfaction.
