Tech Mahindra of India and NIS-GLONASS of Russia have recently forged a partnership that will allow the companies to expand their reach in emerging markets.
Tech Mahindra Limited is a telecommunications solutions provider that is part of the US$15.9 billion Mahindra Group. JSC 'Navigation Information Systems' (JSC 'NIS') GLONASS is a wholly owned subsidiary of 'Navigation-Information Systems', a Russian public-private partnership company. In Russia, NIS GLONASS is the designated national navigation services provider.
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop opportunities in the chipset navigation market in India, with the intention of growing beyond that market. Tech Mahindra will be the system integrator of NIS solutions, and has agreed to customise the solutions according to the requirements of the market in India.
But beyond India, the two companies have agreed to expand their partnership to cover other emerging markets, such as the Middle East, Asia Pacific and those in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The intention is to promote the GLONASS-based navigation solutions.
CP Gurnani, managing director, Tech Mahindra, said the variety, quality and scale of solutions that NIS-Glonass have implemented in Russia are "impressive".
"This partnership, besides addressing the growing markets, will also facilitate the synergy between Tech Mahindra's Telematics & M2M capabilities and GLONASS capabilities," added Gurnani.
On the part of JSC NIS, Alexander Chub, director general, said working with Tech Mahindra allows it to expand in the Pacific Rim and the Middle East.
The partners agreed to focus on solutions for fleet management, intelligent transport, vehicle security, geo-fencing, and precision positioning services, among others.
JSC 'NIS' installs GLONASS satellite technology-based equipment in vehicles and promotes GLONASS technology in Russia and other countries.
