Tata Communications adds AT&T to Telepresence network

Interconnection agreement allows Tata clients to collaborate with others in the network

Tata Communications announced recently that it has forged an inter-provider agreement with AT&T so that Tata clients can collaborate with other partners connected to AT&T.

AT&T is the latest provider connected to Tata Communications' Global Meeting Exchange network where customers can collaborate face-to-face using video. Tata Communications said AT&T is the latest partner to be part of the open ecosystem of providers.

Tata Communications said an open ecosystem is particularly helpful to large enterprises using video more and more in their business operations.

"The creation of an open ecosystem in which service providers align and interconnect their respective business video communities will allow enterprise customers to receive not only the best service possible, but it will also give them unprecedented reach to other Telepresence rooms around the world, enabling them to embrace video as a daily business communication tool," said Peter Quinlan, vice president, Integrated Business Video Services, Tata Communications. "The agreement with AT&T is the latest step in our strategy to make business video a truly global collaboration tool for enterprises, regardless of network, service provider or location."

Tata Communications cited a study by Research firm Informa Telecoms & Media which showed that video accounts for 50 percent of annual Internet traffic growth. With two-way business video requiring more bandwidth, Tata Communications said it is in a position to serve this business requirement. Tata Communications said it owns and operates the world's only fibre optic sub-sea network ring around the world, and this network can support high network traffic such as that required for video collaboration.

Tata Communications' vision of an open ecosystem also includes services, including video services and managed services; and Telepresence networks via inter-provider agreements. Together, these services and networks converge under the Global Meeting Alliance, an open business video ecosystem initiative led by Tata Communications.

AT&T said it is working with other service and technology providers to serve businesses collaborating across the globe through video.

"The interprovider agreement with Tata Communications is another step in that effort, broadening access for AT&T Telepresence Solution customers as they look to collaborate through even more endpoints globally," said Alan Benway, executive director, AT&T Business Solutions.
