The Philippines' Globe Telecom has forged its first international LTE roaming partnership with China Mobile Hong Kong Company (CMHK) with the help of Sybase 365's IP exchange network.
Sybase said it was selected by Globe to roll out its first LTE roaming connectivity with the help of the Sybase IPX 365, Sybase 365's "new, comprehensive suite of IP services and connectivity options that provide global data roaming (GRX), voice transport (both on-net and off-net), SS7 signalling transport, MMS, and SMS."
Globe Telecom said the Sybase solution allows it to "run multiple international services across the one IP connection, thereby providing services and solutions that give our subscribers a more enriched mobile experience."
Rizza Maniego-Eala, group head, International Business, Globe Telecom, said that with LTE networks being launched in the region, there is a need for interoperability among mobile services to benefit both businesses and subscribers.
Sybase 365 cited a report by Informa Telecoms & Media saying there are currently 22 in-service LTE networks in the Asia Pacific region. By end-2013, 15 more networks are set to launch to reach a total of 37 networks.
LTE is currently the "fastest developing mobile system technology", according to Sybase 365, SAP AG's mobile services arm. Yet, one of its biggest challenges in maximising its full potential is roaming connectivity. Sybase 365's answer to this challenge is the Sybase 365 Diameter Hubbing for LTE Roaming, which allows mobile operators to connect their LTE subscribers to other compatible LTE networks around the globe.
"Interoperability and roaming are key enablers for the rapid growth and adoption of LTE," said Sean Lee, director and chief executive officer, China Mobile Hong Kong. "Our partnerships with other mobile operators from around the world extend and enrich our network's capability in providing the best user experience for LTE roamers tapped onto the CMHK network, wherever they may have come from."
Lee added that forging partnerships with Globe Telecom and Sybase 365 allows it to offer its customers enhanced user experience while driving innovations in the mobile solutions space.
"Enabling the launch of Globe Telecom's first commercial LTE roaming service underscores our commitment to providing mobile operators with reliable, best-in-class IPX solutions, that create value for subscribers," said Matthew Tonkin, Global Head IPX, Sybase 365.
Sybase 365 said the solution it provided Globe Telecom allows seamless high speed roaming capability to LTE subscribers while at the same time driving revenues for the mobile operators.
