Swiss Pharmaceutical Company Galderma Opts for Verizon Communications Platform

F.Y. Teng | March 25, 2013
Now runs a network to serve the information access and communication needs of distributors and its more than 4,000 employees across the globe.

Provider of industry-specific communications, Verizon Enterprise Solutions, announced on Monday (March 25, 2013) that it had provided Lausanne, Switzerland-based pharmaceutical company, Galderma, with a "fully managed communications network."

Galderma-a company focused on providing medication for dermatological conditions-had earlier come to Verizon Enterprise Solutions seeking "a cost-efficient means of increasing the capacity of its IT global network infrastructure to support its increasingly data-intensive workload." This was in reference to workload associated with keeping the company's 31 wholly-owned affiliates, wide network of distributors and more than 4,000 employees connected, communicating and collaborating on growing the business.

The setup Galderma now has is a full-featured managed global WAN that spans 42 Galderma sites, among them key R&D facilities (in Japan, the US, France and Sweden) and manufacturing plants (in Brazil, Canada, France and Sweden). It is also a highly secure network, executives from both companies have stressed.

"Highly confidential medical research data has to be handled correctly. Security is our number one concern, and there can be no compromise," Director of Global IT Infrastructure at Galderma Francois Jolles, said at the time of announcement. "Verizon is not only recognised as a global communications expert, but also as a trusted security adviser."

Jolles also pointed out that his company had also managed to save money with the investment. "Verizon's integrated solution has already yielded substantial financial returns: we have more than doubled our bandwidth capacity for nearly half the cost of what we paid previously," he said. "But most importantly, this has been achieved without any compromises on the high service quality and security levels we demand."
