Its Wi-Fi network – with average speeds of 4Mbps to 10Mbps – will provide connectivity that is five times faster than free public Wi-Fi network.

SingTel is apparently the first mobile operator in Singapore to offer mobile plans bundled with SingTel Wi-Fi, a new premium hi-speed Wi-Fi network.

The local telecommunications company unveiled yesterday (August 12, 2014) its new range of SingTel Combo mobile plans. Launched on August 19, these six new plans will replace the five existing Flexi plans for new and re-contracting customers. Three of these new plans will cost an additional S$3 compared to existing ones.

According to its website, SingTel said that its Wi-Fi network - with average speeds of 4Mbps to 10 Mbps - will provide connectivity that is five times faster than free public Wi-Fi networks, such as Wireless@SG.

In addition, SingTel Wi-Fi will also provide coverage at more than 100 hotspots across 11 locations, including popular shopping malls such as Bugis+, Orchard Central, Plaza Singapura and Raffles City. Other locations include SingTel retails shops as well as busy MRT stations like Orchard, City Hall and Raffles Place.

In a report by TODAY (a Singapore newspaper) dated 13 August, 2014, SingTel said that it would increase the number of hot spots to about a thousand by March 2015, and double that number the following year.

Besides Wi-Fi, the new plans will also offer up to 200 minutes more local talk time and up to 500 more SMSes, as well as a permanent waive of subscription fee for its 4G value-added service (VAS).
