PLDT and its wireless unit, Smart communications, have rolled out Smart Wifi in Clark International Airport to address the need for high-speed Internet.
Following the landmark agreement between PLDT and the Department of Transportation, the Clark International Airport was identified as one of 21 key transport hubs in the Philippines for installation of Smart Wifi, besides seaports, bus terminals and train stations.
The deployment of Smart Wifi is backed by PLDT's fixed and wireless network infrastructure. With the new service, users will be able to enjoy a bandwidth of 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) for web surfing.
"The deployment in airports is just the first phase of the nationwide rollout for Smart Wifi as we address the need of consumers for more Wifi hotspots amid rising smartphone penetration and data usage. With a bandwidth of up to 1 gigabit per second, Smart Wifi users will get to enjoy a seamless digital experience whether surfing the web for their favorite sites, or keeping connected with home and office while travelling," said Kat Luna-Abelarde, FVP and Wireless Consumer Operations Head at Smart, in a press release.
Aside from Clark International Airport, the Smart Wifi is now available in the Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City; Bacolod-Silay International Airport in Silay City; Roxas Airport in Roxas City; Iloilo International Airport in Iloilo City; Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental; and Zamboanga Airport in Zamboanga City.
Smart Wifi will also be deployed in all four terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), as well as in the airports in Cebu, Kalibo, Dumaguete, General Santos, Laoag, and Caticlan.
