Returning as CTO of Telekom Austria Group

Following a stint of more than two years, Optus Networks managing director, Guenther (Günther) Ottendorfer, has confirmed he will be leaving the telecommunications provider to return home to Austria.

Ottendorfer has also stated he has a job waiting at Telekom Austria Group where he will fill the role of chief technology officer (CTO).

He will continue his leadership at Optus until mid-2013, while working on a transition plan.

Optus consumer Australia chief executive officer (CEO), Kevin Russell, credits Ottendorfer for his work in leading a team which oversaw the launch of Optus' 4G/LTE network and the strengthening of its 3G capacity.

In commenting on his tenure, Ottendorfer said, "I am proud of our achievements in the last two years, particularly in launching the superfast Optus 4G network, and upgrading over 4000 3G sites for stronger 3G coverage nationally."

"On a personal note, I'm looking forward to returning home to Austria with my family, and the opportunity ahead with Telekom Austria."

Before joining Optus in January 2011, Ottendorfer worked for T-Mobile Europe as technology director for the continent from May 2009. Before that, he was technical director for T-Mobile Germany, a role which he commenced in January 2007.
