Optus and Vodafone have separately reported network outages on Thursday afternoon (19 June 2014).

There is no indication yet that the two outages are related.

Vodafone reported a service disruption affecting voice calls across its national network this afternoon around 2 pm (AEST). The telco said on Facebook that text and data services were unaffected.

"We are currently experiencing some network issues," a Vodafone spokeswoman said at 3pm (AEST).

"We are working to restore the issue as soon as possible and will keep customers updated via our website. We're sorry for the inconvenience."

Optus reported its own network problems on Twitter, but provided few details on the nature of the outage.

"We apologise for the inconvenience," the company tweeted at about 3pm (AEST). "Our engineering teams are working hard to fix the problem."

In a later statement at 4:30 pm (AEST), an Optus spokesperson said, "We are investigating the cause of an issue that is affecting the mobile services of some of our customers.

"We are working on the issue as a priority and will provide an update as soon as possible. We're really sorry, we know this is frustrating for our customers."

Vodafone has set up a page with updates on the situation.
