NTT Data has been chosen to provide business systems integration for the UK's national smart metering service.
NTT, whose headquarters is in Tokyo, will provide systems integration for the section of the smart metering network covering Scotland and the north of England.
The supplier was hired by Arqiva, which last year won the contract to manage that section of the UK's £12.1 billion smart metering network, which the government promises will help bring down household utility bills through more accurate bills.
The deal will see NTT provide design, planning, testing and integration services for Arqiva's business support systems (BSS).
"We look forward to bringing our international smart metering experience to this new service," said Alastair Masson, vice president for telecoms and media at NTT Data's UK operations.
The deal will see NTT working in areas such as ERP, reporting, enterprise integration and order management.
Peter Heslop, engineering, implementation and operations director at Arqiva, said: "NTT has embedded its teams in ours and this combination of expertise has created a very productive working dynamic."
