NEC establishes NEC Corporation of Korea

It will begin operations in July 2012.

Japanese IT company NEC Corporation has established the NEC Corporation of Korea (NEC Korea) as part of strengthening its regional information and communications technology (ICT) business, the company announced on 20 June.

Though the new entity was established on 13 June, it will begin operations only in July 2012.

NEC said in a statement that it had established representative offices in Seoul in the early 1960s. Those offices served as a base for business development in fields that include communications systems, broadcast systems, social infrastructure and others.

However, owing to the rapid growth of IT and network environments in South Korea, NEC reinforced its regional organisation by shifting focus from its existing hardware-centered business to an emphasis on solutions and services that capitalise on NEC's IT and network strengths.

"NEC aims to propose, build and provide enterprise systems that leverage its advanced biometric technologies, including fingerprint and face recognition services, as well as public safety solutions, carrier network solutions, cloud and M2M services," said a company representative.

NEC Korea is located in Seoul, South Korea, and currently has 15 employees.
