National Instruments (NI), a US-based specialised hardware, software, support and training services provider in the engineering and scientific fields, issued a statement today detailing its most recent commitments with education institutions in Singapore, and announced that it was showcasing its work at the International Conference on Teaching and Learning with Technology (ICTLT) 2012 running in Singapore, March 27-30.
NI executives said that they were "engaging students' interest in STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths] learning by providing an interactive, project-based platform where they can explore, analyse and explain their findings just like the industry professionals" and that they use "real-world data, industry-tested technology and relevant projects to enhance students' analytical and technical skills and at the same time, stimulate their interest to pursue engineering and science careers in the future."
They offered up three exemplary initiatives: a self-paced learning initiative by Hai Sing Catholic School (Singapore) using NI LabVIEW software; a joint programme with Science Centre Singapore and UNESCO dubbed STEEL [Science, Technology, and Engineering Education Exchange Laboratory], which was launched in September and "aims to build capacity of Ministry of Education officials, technical and vocational teachers, and students in South East Asian countries through curriculum development training, annual workplan to promote science, technology and engineering (STE) education, and support to STE competitions from district to regional level"; and, an integrated curriculum for "enhancing the technology proficiency" for students of Rulang Primary School and Fuhua Secondary School leading to "junior LabVIEW developer certification."
Each instance is on display at ICTLT 2012, which is billed as "a premier conference for educators and technology leaders. "National Instruments' commitment to the research and academic community is unwavering," said Chandran Nair, Managing Director, NI Southeast Asia. "We are delighted to take part in this year's ICTLT, interact with educators from around the region, and show how cutting-edge technologies are being used to create collaborative and enriching learning environments."
