Motherswork is a Singapore-headquartered retail chain that caters to the needs of mothers and babies. The company currently has 5 stores in Singapore and 6 in China totaling over 45,000sq ft of premium retail space.
Set up in Singapore in 1998, motherworks’s mission is to partner with mothers and mothers-to-be from the time they are pregnant to when their babies become toddlers and beyond.
"Motherswork prides itself in being a progressive retail company," says Sharon Wong (picture), CEO and founder of Motherswork, explaining its successful growth strategy in an email interview with MIS Asia. "We have embraced Multi-Channel retailing ahead of more established retailers in the space. We are piloting a mobile clienteling solution running on a tablet device. This will allow our store staff to better engage with the customers on the shop-floor and to deliver superior shopping experience."
The company uses solutions from Integrated Retail. "We have a comprehensive and best of the breed retail solution Retail Pro, running our retail business," she says. "The system has helped us scale our business with the addition of new stores both in Singapore and Overseas. Retail Pro helps us consolidate transaction data across countries and multiple retail formats, for our management to get an accurate and timely view of our business metrics like sales, margins, stocking levels, etc."
Why did she choose Integrated Retail for her company's operations? "We need to retrieve accurate inventory data and generate sales report as and when needed, generate variance report, optimize inventory and prevent overstocking, gain insight to customer trends and sales performance of products and enhanced staff productivity," she explains. "We chose Retail Pro for its functionalities and for its proven capabilities across an installed base of several thousand retail stores."
Integrated Retail is one of the leading implementation partners for Retail Pro in the APAC region. "Integrated Retail, installed Retail Pro for us and has been servicing us since 2008 - 09," she adds. "Integrated Retail has provided us with good service and support for new store roll outs, new feature roll-outs, Retail Pro upgrades as well as in providing value added solutions like Web Based Reporting."
Did she face any problems in deployment? "Deployment includes data transfer, formatting, setup and training; Not a problem at stage one," she says. "Setup for a single country, limited stores and proper training for our staff on usage by Integrated Retail was very effective. However, as we expanded overseas, we needed better understanding of the programme and definitions of formulas and as we rely on Retail pro for more extensive detailed reporting, support from Integrated Retail is crucial and sometimes due to lack of experienced manpower from Integrated Retail, it created delays and in one instance, created loss of productivity as data transfer was performed in error. Deployment is always an issue as it relies heavily on experienced manpower. Press the wrong button and the wrong data gets transferred or the wrong location gets override."
