Malaysian LTE provider chooses Dimension Data to help boost mobile internet experience

Companies in the fast-paced, challenging telco sector need to adapt quickly to address ever-evolving consumer trends, said Dimension Data's Henrick Choo.

ICT solutions provider Dimension Data has been appointed recently by a 4G internet communications service provider in Malaysia to implement IT solutions to help deliver an enhanced LTE mobile internet experience to subscribers.

Dimension Data Malaysia's managing director Henrick Choo said Dimension Data will help the client to roll-out an LTE (long term evolution) network across the nation by building a LTE Operations Support System (OSS) / Business Support Systems (BSS) infrastructure, which will offer seamless backend billing and tracking mechanism to further enhance subscriber experience and the service provider's product offerings.

"The fast-paced and challenging nature of the telco business forces companies in this sector to stay nimble, and be able to adapt quickly to new mobile technologies to address the ever-evolving consumer trends," said Choo, adding that the key for telco providers to retain and attract new subscribers rested on customer experience as well as attractive product offerings.

He said the service provider selected a portal that allowed users to conduct online transactions, track their mobile internet usage patterns and customise their service subscription with ease.

Dimension Data will design and implement the system on the service provider company's existing next-generation data centre. The project has already seen the successful migration of the telco's customers' OSS/BSS data into the new system. Dimension Data also deployed a two-tiered firewall architecture to secure and facilitate high performance within the LTE OSS and BSS infrastructure.

Business critical

This will pave the way for the company's data centres to better perform against business requirements for greater security, responsiveness, agility, and sustainability, he said.

A spokesperson for the service provider said the OSS/BSS was "business-critical in assuring LTE network capacity and service quality, while enforcing charging parameters for high-speed mobile broadband services. Armed with these greater levels of automation, the service provider will be able to deliver real-time services, billing and seamless customer experience for their data-driven mobile customers."

In addition, the move opened up more possibilities to tailor product offerings to meet consumers' demand for high speed and stable internet connectivity to support rich multimedia content.
