M1 Limited (M1) has launched Singapore's first wi-fi roaming service for its postpaid retail and corporate customers today, according to the company's statement.
The service provides M1 postpaid customers with unlimited data roaming on global wi-fi hotspots across more than 120 countries and territories. For customers with multiple devices, they can log on at the same hotspot with the M1 WiFi Roaming application.
To activate service, customers simply have to download the application from Google Play Store or iTunes and set up a user profile on it before travelling overseas. Upon arriving at the destination, users can use the application to locate and connect to available wi-fi hotspots which are managed by M1-Partner networks.
M1 WiFi Roaming service is on a pay-per-use basis; customers will only be charged upon successful connection to wi-fi hotspots through the application. The rates are S$12 (US$9.70) per day in Asia Pacific and Americas regions, and S$19 (US$15.30) per day for the other parts of the world.
"We are excited to offer Singapore's first wi-fi roaming service to our postpaid mobile customers. This will provide both retail and corporate users an affordable and fuss-free option to stay connected when they travel," said P. Subramaniam, chief marketing officer of M1 Limited.
The service adds to M1's existing suite of data roaming services that have allowed data users to stay connected even when overseas without worrying about receiving a "bill shock" on data roaming charges.
