Insurance startup turns to mobile technology and social media to extend services

At the recent CIO Conference in Manila, Lindsey Lim of BIMA explains how her company uses mobile technology and social media to make it easier for people to acquire insurance coverage.

In Cambodia, customers can just take a photo of their documents and send it to BIMA's Facebook page. In their other markets, BIMA has an underwriter partner that checks the validity of the digital documents, but in Cambodia they have an office that does the validation.

Customers can then receive their insurance claims through BIMA's mobile money agent.

In a nutshell, Lim said using mobile technology and Facebook does not only make the process easier, but also more accessible for their customers. "We use technology [in various ways] to make work easier, faster, and less difficult for our physical agents."
