India’s Supreme Court hears challenge to biometric authentication system

Two lawsuits question the requirement for a biometric id for people to file tax returns.

The current lawsuits against Aadhaar have not been argued on grounds of privacy, reportedly because the court would not allow this line of argument, which is already being heard in the other case. The Supreme Court has made current petitioners “fight this battle with one arm tied behind their backs!,” wrote lawyer Gautam Bhatia in a blog post Wednesday.
