New IT group to help manufacturers with solutions

Honeywell has recently created a new IT group that will help manufacturers protect their business from cyber threats.

Honeywell said its new Industrial IT Solutions Group can also help protect process industry facilities by using vendor-neutral technologies and services that can maintain and manage plant automation network performance despite the threats.

The new IT group is part of the Honeywell Process Solutions and specialises in the design, performance assessment and protection of networks used in the process industry, including the manufacturing industry.

"Automation network security and performance has become a critical component of plant safety in the process industries," said Jon Lippin, vice president and general manager, Honeywell Lifecycle Solutions and Services for Honeywell Process Solutions. "As control networks continue to expand and integrate to business systems, the risks and complexity of cyber vulnerabilities must be addressed with the same vigilance as process safety risks assessments."

Track record

To help the process industries, Honeywell said it is counting on its extensive knowledge in IT systems and a deep understanding of process control environments.

"Honeywell has invested in building the Industrial IT Solutions practice to help industrial plant, pipeline and asset owners stay ahead of the threats, regardless of control system vendor or location. We provide a scalable approach to managing all aspects of today's industrial control system networks," Lippin added.

The new IT team will be comprised of network and security-certified professionals who can help assess the plant's assets against industry standards, regulatory requirements and best practices. This is the first of the four-phase system that Honeywell is offering its customers. The team will then remediate issues identified with the help of the assessment.

On the plant's IT assets, the new IT group can protect the IT investments through IT support services and training such as security administration, anti-virus management, and patch management. To maintain the operations of the plant, the Honeywell services include performance and security monitoring, change management, and monthly status reporting.
