HKICC 2015: Powering the digital economy

The Hong Kong International Computer Conference 2015 is a two-day event that aims to provide a knowledge exchange platform for global experts and participants to share their visions, practical insights and successful achievements offered by ICT.

The Hong Kong International Computer Conference (HKICC) is an annual flagship event organised by the Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS).

Held on November 24 and 25, 2015 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the two-day event aims to provide a knowledge exchange platform for global experts and participants to share their visions, practical insights and successful achievements offered by ICT.

"For 38 years in a row, HKCS has been hosting this flagship event to explore the opportunities that information technology has to offer, by providing a platform for both local and international ICT industry leaders, with representatives from public and private sectors, academia and government, to exchange their ideas and views," said Michael Leung, President of HKCS.

"It is beyond doubt that technology has become inseparable from and intertwined with our daily lives, business and industry developments, making it the primary driver for the increasingly rapid-pace of change. Acknowledging its wide spread impact on the global economy, the conference theme this year will be on Digital Economy, its application and implication; and on encouraging innovation to sustain growth and thrive," he added.

The event highlights key trends and issues in a fast-growing digital economy, with topics ranging from governance to startups to powerful digital enablers. As in previous years, HKICC2015 has also placed a strong emphasis on extracting the embedded value of ICT to all levels of the market, from consumers to businesses to the greater market, government and the community locally, regionally and globally.

Guest-of-honour Nicholas W. Yang, JP, Secretary for Innovation and Technology of The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, officiated the event. Delivering his opening speech, Yang commented on how Hong Kong has stood out in today's global digital economy, making it a great place to foster innovation.

35 experts from the ICT industry participated in the discussion and debate panels to address six key areas under the theme digital economy: Online-to-Offline Revolution; FinTech; Perspective of the Technology Investors; Role of Government in Digital Economy; Cyberlaw, Security, and Privacy; and Open Data, Big Data, Mobile Data.

Additionally, keynote speakers - Ir. Allen Yeung, Government Chief Information Officer, KK Wong, Co-founder and Vice President, Xiaomi Technology and Henek Lo, General Manager of Greater China Region, Airbnb - shared their insights on how they perceive and leverage the digital economy.
