Ericsson launches small cell radio device for indoor telecom links

T.C. Seow | Sept. 26, 2013
Small, unobtrusive Radio Dot System will fully integrate with macro mobile networks and leverage existing indoor wiring and outdoor cellular infrastructure

Telcos have already installed signal boosters to enable greater coverage indoors. How different is the Radio Dot system compared to what have already been installed?
Signal boosters are essentially repeaters—they simply amplify signals from outdoors but also generates interference, thereby reducing the capacity and performance of the outdoor mobile network.  The Radio Dot solution is a complete mobile system for indoor deployment, it provides indoor coverage and additional capacity without compromise. The radio dot system is aesthetically elegant and non-invasive for an indoor environment  and can scale to virtually unlimited capacity.

Can the Radio Dot system be integrated with base units from other vendors? Or must operators install only Ericsson's base units?
No. The three main components of Radio Dot System (DU, IRU and Radio Dots) have been designed and optimised to work together to deliver the best performance and operation in the in-building environment.
