Destiny release date & beta access

When is Destiny coming out? We bring you everything you need to know about the upcoming game, including how to get access to the Destiny beta.

Destiny is one of the most talked about games of 2014. Set to be released later this year, it will bring PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners a new first-person shooter from the makers of Halo. Here, we bring you all of the release date information you need to know, as well as gameplay features, trailers and screenshots. See also: PS4 vs PS3 comparison review

Destiny release date: When is Destiny coming out?

First things first, let's talk about when you'll actually be able to play Destiny. If you've pre-ordered the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 versions of the game, you'll actually be able to begin playing the Destiny beta from tomorrow (17 July). For Xbox One and Xbox 360 pre-order customers, the doors to the beta will open slightly later, on 23 July.

That's ahead of the actual release of the game, which is set for 9 September this year on all platforms, so there's not too long to wait.

Also on 9 September, Destiny will be available as part of a special white PlayStation 4 bundle, which is rather nice.

Destiny pre-orders

That aforementioned white PlayStation 4 with Destiny bundle is available to pre-order now exclusively from Game, and will cost you £384.99.

If it's just the game you're after, you can pre-order the download from the Sony Entertainment Network Store. It's £54.99 for PS4 or £49.99 for PS3. If you want access to the beta version, you'll need to register with and sign in with your PSN ID.

You'll get access to the beta if you pre-order a physical copy too. You can do so from various places, including Amazon. It's £45 for the PS4 and Xbox One version on Amazon or £40 for the older consoles.

Amazon also offers a (rather pricey) limited edition version of Destiny. It's only for PS4 and cost you £80.00. The Limited Edition comes with a SteekBook case and an 'Arms and Armaments' field guide, as well as postcards from the Golden Age and antique star chart collector's items. It also includes the Destiny Expansion Pass for access to extra content such as story missions, arenas, weapons, armour and gear.

At Game, you'll find an even more expensive Destiny Ghost Edition, ideal for collectors. It comes with all of the extras found in the Limited Edition mentioned above, in addition to a Ghost Replica, a Letter of Introduction, Golden Age Relics and a Guardian Folio to keep all of the extra bits in one place.
