Deep Dive into Malaysia’s Digital Economy with MDEC CEO Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood - Part 1

AvantiKumar | Feb. 24, 2017
In an exclusive two-part interview, Computerworld Malaysia takes a pulse check of Malaysia’s national Digital Economy ambitions with MDEC chief Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood.

"I think that from the eCommerce perspective, the number of SMEs that have adopted eCommerce last year have moved to 20 percent, according to SME Corp. Compare this to the year before or even a few years before that, when the figure was less than 10 percent. In other words, the volume has doubled in less than two years," she said, adding that this emphasised how the momentum is taking the whole ecosystem to a much richer level.

"We also see the number of SMEs that are getting on board to eCommerce has also improved tremendously. However, our target is to get that number to 50 percent of our SMEs embracing eCommerce by 2020. This is based on the National eCommerce Strategic Roadmap, which is also being championed by SME Corp. Looking at the momentum right now, I think we can do it."
