C&W, Intregen solution cuts international call costs

As much as 70 per cent will be saved using Cable&Wireless’ Multiprotocol Label Switching.

Cable&Wireless is working with a Singapore-based company to bring a low-cost international calling solution to Asian organisations.

The solution, called Cable&Wireless Worldwide Assistant, uses Intregen (S)'s low, fixed price Internet Protocol (IP) networks to be able to cut companies' international calling costs by as much as 70 per cent, C&W said. International voice calls are re-routed using C&W's secure and resilient MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) instead of fully relying on traditional mobile networks.

C&W Worldwide Assistant is a pay-as-you-use service aimed at company executives on-the-go. C&W said the solution is ideal for pre-scheduled audio conferences, calling all participants at the requested time and eliminating the need for multi-country conference call numbers and passwords.

"Many corporations are concerned about the rising costs of making international calls, and have implemented policies that restrict employee communications. The C&W Worldwide Assistant gives employees the freedom to communicate with anyone across the globe, while delivering substantial cost savings. This new solution can be easily integrated with the company's existing communications estate," said Alex Connors, head, international product management, C&W Worldwide.

Client and app

The solution includes the Worldwide Assistant desktop client that can be downloaded on the user's PC or as an application on smartphones or devices. In the office, appointed administrators can access a self-help portal which allows them to manage user accounts in-house.

Cable&Wireless Worldwide Assistant also provide it customers with 24x7 service.

One of the solutions' early adopters is Mike MacMillan, CEO of Vizualize Ltd. MacMillan, a frequent traveller, said his company used to spend as much as €3,000 (US$4,300) on calls to Switzerland before using Cable&Wireless Worldwide Assistant. He said he was able to save as much as 90 per cent on his telephone bills after using the solution.
