Bidding has now closed in the CharityBuzz auction that offered bidders the chance to sit down for coffee with Cook.

Bidding ended just after 9pm last night and the final bid of $610,000 (£400,000) was made 30 minutes before the auction closed. The name of the bidder is unknown, but they made only one bid, according to Technobuffalo.

Proceeds for the auction will raise money for the Washington-based Robert F. Kennedy Centre for Justice and Human Rights. RFK Centre President Kerry Kennedy said: "The RFK Centre's annual auctions empower our human rights advocacy around the world, from courtrooms to classrooms, from Cambodia to California."

The auction began on 24 April. The first bid was first bid was for $6,000 and at the time the value of the coffee date was placed at $50,000. However, by the end of April the bidding surpassed $600,000.

The winner is able to bring a friend and they will get 30-60 minutes with Cook at Apple's HQ in Cupertino.

The auction prize was described as "the unique opportunity to have coffee with Apple CEO Tim Cook."

The auction rules specified that the winner must: "Conduct themselves appropriately when attending" and that "polite manners and respect for the generous donor and adherence to any rules or parameters are a must."

Apple CEO was the recent victim of a "whisper campaign" which aimed to blame Cook for the plummeting share prices of Apple.
