CIO Summit 2013: Konica Minolta and Business Values

CIO Asia, MIS Asia Editorial Team | July 5, 2013
One business leader talks about how his vendor organisation is helping customers marry new technology with business goals.

One of the key vendor representatives to speak at our–MIS Asia, CIO Asia and IDC Asia/Pacific's–CIO Summit 2013 Singapore is Jonathan Yeo, GM, Sales HQ of Konica-Minolta Business Solutions Asia. The following are his insights on adoption trends and what his company is doing to help customers solve their current problems and meet new challenges ahead.

What are the top priorities of CIOs at your customer organisations?
Yeo: With the proliferation of smart devices and ubiquitous connectivity, technology has evolved and has made an impact in their lifestyle in one way or another.

Disruptive technologies-mobile, cloud and big data-have changed the way enterprise operates. The CIOs see mobility, cloud and big data as the top priorities and view a need to marry new technology with business goals that translates to business values.

Recognising that, and to gain maximum value from supporting enterprise mobility, and managing big data, businesses need to evaluate their goals, resources and policies. How can they keep up with the evolution of technology and integrate modern technology into their office process to achieve office optimisation. The challenges now are to manage security, corporate data, whilst supporting the growth of mobile workforce and improving the productivity level and new working styles.

How should they go about meeting their challenges?
There should be business value in adoption of these disruptive technologies and to gear up IT function and enabling them to perform as strategic unit to support business growth with the evolution of technologies.

Companies should evaluate their business goals, how new technologies can be integrated and if it provides business value to the organisation. There is a need to evaluate their current state, such as capabilities, infrastructure, and investment cost, processes and assess and map out to their long term vision, whilst coping with the rapidly changing technology landscape.

How are you helping your customers in these areas?
Mobility is one the key drivers to support the growing pool of mobile workers. With PageScope Mobile, an application that allows the all-in-one system to sync with iPhones, iPads and other smart mobile devices, users are able to print documents or pictures from their mobile devices by simply connecting to the multifunction printers (MFPs) by wireless connection, making their work more efficient.

Many types of applications today (for example OCR) require enormous computing power. With our bizhub connectors, you can now extend and augment the functionality and the computing power of your device, accessing to either private or public cloud services. You can create an application portal to your SaaS (Software as a Service) account, or even your own privately developed PaaS (Platform as a Service) applications.
