Citizens of Bahrain can now confidently transact electronically with the government through a secure national infrastructure created for the Kingdom of Bahrain by CrimsonLogic.
CrimsonLogic said it was commissioned by Bahrain to build a secure National Authentication Framework that enables citizens to use government services electronically with a secure authentication system. The project has been dubbed the eKey system.
CrimsonLogic said the system safeguards the citizens' identities across multiple delivery channels by using a single authentication profile and login to access government e-services. The authentication process has three levels of security: password (PIN), smartcard and biometric (fingerprint) identity verification.
The project was launched at the 5th Bahrain International eGovernment Forum 2012 held last week.
CrimsonLogic said the system is the first of its kind in the Middle East.
"With the system now in place, it will help the Bahrain government reduce administrative operating expenses, enhance service delivery efficiency and improve user experience," said Leong Peng Kiong, CEO, CrimsonLogic. "This significant milestone is a strong testament of the Bahrain government's commitment and strategy to enhance government-to-citizen engagement, and also strengthened the country's competitive position in the region."
To use the services, the kingdom's citizens need to register first to set up their account on the Bahrain eGovernment portal. From there, they can access services from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Human Rights and Social Development, and Electricity and Water Authority.
CrimsonLogic has been working on government projects from across the globe for the past 20 years. It has also recently helped develop government systems for Singapore, Namibia, and Vietnam, to name a few.
