UC Centre in Temasek Poly will develop solutions and skills set for businesses in Singapore.

Unified communications (UC) provider Avaya has forged a partnership with Temasek Polytechnic to develop UC solutions and skills set for businesses in Singapore.

Avaya will establish a Unified Communications Centre in Temasek Polytechnic where solutions on UC can be developed and in the process build Singapore's talent pool. The solutions to be developed in the Centre will be designed to benefit businesses in Singapore.

The facility will act as a training centre where students from Temasek Polytechnic's  Diploma in Mobile & Network Services course will have hands-on experience using  Avaya's advanced collaboration and communication products. As a training centre, students will be given opportunities to collaborate with the industry while developing solutions.

Avaya said the hands-on experience is important in developing the human resource pool in Singapore.

Hands-on experience

"An experiential learning experience is key to enabling the development of Singapore's future technology leaders. Businesses of all sizes use Avaya's people-centric UC solutions, and by working with Temasek Polytechnic to develop new skills, we can help drive the effective deployment of the latest in collaboration innovation to the benefit of all who live and work in Singapore," said Pamela Tham, country manager, Singapore, Avaya.

Students studying networking and telephony at the Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT will also use the centre to learn via practical training how to set up and configure IP telephony, UC and broadcast networks.

For students of Temasek Polytechnic, the opportunity to collaborate with professionals in the field is significant as it prepares them to integrate themselves into the industry.

"The new UC Centre is a key new addition to the School of Informatics & IT, providing students from the Diploma in Mobile & Network Services course with valuable practical training to prepare them for a fulfilling career in the information technology industry,'' said Benny Chin Siew Min, course manager, Diploma in Mobile & Network Services, Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT.
