YCH enhances productivity with WMS-enabled satellite storage and warehousing solution

The integrated solution will help boost efficiency, productivity, and worker safety standards through automation coupled with high-density storage solution.

Singapore-based supply chain company YCH Group recently installed an integrated solution comprising YCH's proprietary Warehouse Management Solution (WMS) integrated with a satellite automated cart storage system at its facility within the Tampines LogisPark.

According to the company, the integrated solution will boost efficiency, productivity, and worker safety standards through automation coupled with high-density storage solution.

Worth over S$1 million (US$800,000), the YCH WMS is equipped with several modules that are customised to customer's requirements including location assignment logic, picking logic and storage logic. It merges seamlessly with the satellite warehousing system.

The Radio Frequency controlled, satellite automated cart storage system installed in YCH's facility stores and retrieves individual pallets at the speed of one to one and half minutes per pallet. As conventional systems usually take four to five minutes to do the same job, this cart storage system helps increase efficiency and throughput by three times. The high density storage racks, which make up a part of the cart storage system, effectively maximise and utilise warehouse floor space by more than 30 percent too.

Since the integrated solution enables automation, operational workers are less likely to directly handle pallets, therefore decreasing the chances of work hazards and incidents. Tay Ee Learn, vice-president of Global Operations at YCH Group, said: "[The enabled automation will also allow] the operations staff to upskill and learn about new technologies and workflow processes. This increases the value of their work and contribution to the company."
