Changes at Yahoo keep on coming and this time, there's a new look for Yahoo Search.
The redesign, available now for all users, moves search results higher up the page by relocating search categories from underneath the search box to the left sidebar.
Related searches no longer appear in the sidebar, but they still show up at the bottom of any search results page.
Yahoo is also adding a Google-like top navigation bar that links to other Yahoo sites, such as News, Sports, Finance, Weather, and Flickr. Expect this sidebar to show up on other Yahoo sites over time.
Links to Yahoo Mail, settings and sign-in have shifted down to the same line as the search box, making them slightly more noticeable.
Faster loading promised
In addition to aesthetic changes, the new search includes "under-the-hood performance improvements" that should help pages load faster, but the company's blog post doesn't elaborate on these changes. Yahoo Search is still powered by Bing, but it's unclear to what extent Microsoft's search engine is responsible for these improvements.
Overall, these seem like welcome changes for Yahoo Search, giving it a cleaner look. A comparison to Google, however, brings up one aesthetic nitpick: Ads seem just a little more insidious on Yahoo, with only a faint blue background separating them from organic results.
Google's ad box has gold outline that runs wider than the actual results field, which makes it easier for a user to distinguish when quickly scanning the page.
Yahoo has been keeping itself in the headlines lately with some big product-related moves.
