The Raspberry Pi Sony factory in South Wales has made its one millionth computer for education.
The first Raspberry Pi computers were made in China during 2011, but from September 2012 production started to move to the Sony factory in Pencoed.
Both Raspberry Pi manufacturing partners - RS Components and Premier Farnell - have now re-shored all their production of the Raspberry Pi to the Welsh factory, which has now reached the millionth Pi milestone. With the Chinese-made machines, there are now 1.75 million Raspberry computers in circulation.
Sony's Pencoed factory has also just won a number of trophies at the British Factory Awards, winning the Best Factory, Best Electronics Factory and Best Factory for Innovation categories, as well as being commended for its work on minimising energy use and its environmental impact.
For the one millionth Raspberry Pi, Sony has made a gold-plated case to keep it in so that it can be displayed.
Computer scientists at the University of Glasgow recently said they had built a working model of a "multi-million pound cloud infrastructure" with a budget of £4,000, using just Lego bricks and a handful of Raspberry Pi computer boards.
