Universal Robots has launched the UR3, a tabletop robot for manufacturing industries that require speedy, precise and consistent movements between waypoints to ensure uniform product output.
A press statement by the Odense, Dennmark-based vendor of industrial robots said the new tabletop robot can function either as the second member of a two-man team or a standalone operator.
It has a payload of three kilograms and weighs 11 kilograms even as it allows for 360-degree rotation on all wrist joints and infinite rotation on the end joint.
The press statement said the UR3 can be deployed in confined workspaces where construction of large safety guarding is not feasible.
It can also operate in environments with toxic or hazardous materials while at the same time, having 15 advanced, adjustable safety settings.
Among the industries the UR3 is suited for are the manufacture of medical devices, circuit boards and electronic components, according to the press statement.
As such, the press statement claimed it gives users a competitive edge in the high-mix and low-volume production environment of today.
The UR3 recently was introduced to a number of distributors in the Asia-Pacific.
