To mark the conclusion of a three-month Project Buah Tangan community campaign as well as the festive season, Malaysian telecom U Mobile celebrated with 36 children from Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari charity and Shelter 1 Homes.
U Mobile chief executive officer Wong Heang Tuck said the children were delighted with a day-out with the U Mobile team at the Berjaya Times Square mall in Kuala Lumpur where they spend their year-end holiday with their favourite rides.
Wong said the celebration was also a grand finale to U Mobile's Project Buah Tangan campaign where consumers engaged through various media platforms to suggest a community, foundation, or charity organisation for the telco to bring a positive change to the community.
He added that from the hundreds of submissions, U Mobile shortlisted a proposed to spend quality time with underprivileged children and provide them with items for their schooling needs as a gesture of support for the nation's younger generation. During the day, Wong also gave away new schooling supplies and stationery to the young children to prepare them for the upcoming schooling term in 2015.
"As U Mobile moves towards being one of the leading telecoms and admired companies in Malaysia, it is crucial for us to explore avenues in giving back to the community and exploring avenues for us to rollout out CSR programmes," said Wong. "This is the making of a socially responsible company, and we truly look forward to explore more avenues to make a difference in the society and the industry we operate within."
