To help Malaysian organisations manage a rapid adoption of mobile initiatives, security solutions provider Symantec Malaysia has announced two new programmes and a single mobile suite that spans device, application and mobile security management.

"Businesses in Malaysia today are relying more on mobility than ever before with more people working in multiple locations, at various times, and on a number of different devices. Symantec's Mobility Survey1 in Malaysia highlighted an uptake in mobile applications across organisations in Malaysia with 67 percent of enterprises in the country at least discussing deployment of custom mobile applications," said Symantec Malaysia country director, Alex Ong.

Ong said that businesses are struggling to find the right approach and combination of technologies to realise the productivity benefits of mobility, without compromising protection of critical data. "According to the Malaysia findings of Symantec's 2012 State of Mobility Survey, nearly half (44 percent) of the organisations in Malaysia surveyed see mobility as a challenge that requires effort to manage."

"Symantec is simplifying this process by working directly with app developers and implementation partners to create a developer programme that businesses can rely upon," said Ong, adding that the 'App Center Ready Program'  would help local developers quickly build trusted enterprise applications with no code changes, while the 'Mobility Solution Specialisation Program'  would support channel partners.

He said the Mobility Solution Specialisation programme would help the company's partners to offer its enterprise mobility products. "Partners participating in Symantec's Mobility Specialisation will be able to establish compelling practices around enabling mobility with an end-to-end solution."

"With these two programmes and the industry's most complete suite of enterprise mobility solutions, Symantec addresses all five critical areas of enterprise mobility - user and app access, app and data protection, device management, threat protection and secure file sharing," he said.

IDC senior analyst, mobile enterprise research, Stacy Crook, said, "With the increase of BYOD and mobile application programmes, IT departments are looking for secure and efficient ways to enable mobility. They need tools to help them deal with various use cases to achieve a comfortable level of control over the devices, applications and data, all without trampling on device ease of use and user productivity. The need for such tools is only going to increase as workforces become more mobile."
