Security vendor, Sophos, has launched Mobile Control 3.0, the new version of its mobile device management (MDM) solution.
Sophos Mobile Control is an application which promises to enable enterprises to manage, control, and secure Android devices from a single Web console. The MDM client is an app that only works in combination with Sophos Mobile Device Management software.
Among Mobile Control 3.0's new features is integration with Sophos Mobile Security 2.0. Mobile Security is designed to protect Android smartphones and tablets from malware. Sophos said all apps and external media are scanned, findings are centrally reported, and mitigation acts are automatically initiated as defined in the company's compliance settings.
In combination with Mobile Control 3.0, Mobile Security 2.0 now includes Web security, extending URL filtering capabilities to Android devices. Any URL a user attempts to access is first verified against SophosLabs' hosted database for reputation and malware. When malicious content of phishing is discovered, the users will be warned and redirected to a safe site.
Mobile Control 3.0 also includes support for Samsung for Enterprises (SAFE), which promises extended manageability for Android devices and supports enterprise features such as VPN, Wi-Fi, and Microsoft Exchange configuration. The aim is to enable greater control while making bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies easier to define and enforce.
Additionally, as part of the new release, Sophos is offering the MDM application on a per-user based license.
