Smartphone users find you are what you tweet as they cut down their digital diet

Ryan Kaplan is undergoing a digital detox this weekend. The 31-year-old psychology post-graduate will be among thousands of people around the world to switch off their mobiles, tablets, laptops and computers for 24 hours to enjoy a bit of old-school interaction.

John Lenarcic specialises in the ethical and social impact of social technologies at RMIT. He said user-friendly improvements to technology had changed people's relationship with mobile phones. ''A mobile almost becomes part of people,'' he said.
