Smart to provide free in-car Smart Wi-Fi on Uber rides

Zafirah Salim | Sept. 9, 2015
Smart and Uber is giving away voucher codes that will enable Smart subscribers to avail of two rides worth Php 300 each using Uber.

Philippines' wireless services provider, Smart Communications, announced yesterday (Sept 8) that it will be giving away two free Uber rides - worth Php 300 each (US$6.40) - to Metro Manila-based subscribers who are first-time users of the ride-sharing app.

These rides can be used anywhere within Metro Manila from now until September 30, it added. To enjoy this exclusive treat, subscribers simply need to visit www.smart.com.ph/uber and register their Smart number. Upon successful registration, users will receive a promo code that needs to be keyed in on the Uber app before requesting for a ride.

In addition to this, Smart has also partnered with Uber to allow its passengers to enjoy free in-car Smart Wi-Fi, which is a first in Southeast Asia, according to the telco.

With this, more Filipinos can experience the "smart life" even while stuck in traffic or breezing through the metro, enabling them to browse social media, access their emails, and even stream music and videos while on the go.

Currently, this free Wi-Fi service is available in select Uber Black vehicles; but it will be slowly rolled out to other Uber vehicles over the next few months.

Smart is also set to introduce exclusive voice and data packages, bundles and add-ons for Uber partner drivers, as well as offer special promotions, discounts and on-demand experiences for subscribers.

"Uber and Smart share the same vision - a world where transportation is smarter and more convenient to passengers. By powering Uber cars with free Smart Wi-Fi, we are able to bring the Smart Life experience to more Filipinos who can now stay productive and entertained while rushing to work or school, heading to the mall or on the way back home after a long day," said Ariel P. Fermin, executive vice president and head for consumer business for both PLDT and Smart.
