About six out of 10 Singaporeans are active Facebook users, according to We Are Social's new "Social, Digital and Mobile Worldwide" report.
This figure, which is more than double the global average of 26 percent, puts Singapore as having the second highest social penetration rate out of the 24 countries examined.
The social penetration rate is based on the number of active users of the largest active social network in each country.
On average, Singaporeans are spending about 2.2 hours per day on all social media platforms. Besides Facebook, Twitter (19 percent), Google+ (18 percent), LinkedIn (13 percent) and Instagram (12 percent) are the social media platforms commonly used by Singaporeans.
The rise of mobile
The report also revealed that mobile is playing an increasingly important part in the social media landscape. Almost half of the mobile users (49 percent) in Singapore were found to be accessing social media platforms via their phones.
Likewise, more Singaporeans are accessing the Internet through their smartphones (64 percent) as opposed to a desktop or laptop. These users spend close to two hours daily surfing the mobile Internet to search for local information (96 percent), research on products (87 percent), and make purchases (44 percent).
