SingTel mobile customers aged 55 and above in Singapore will now be able to enjoy a 20 percent discount on their monthly subscription of the telco's 4G-enabled plans.
The discounted Seniors SuperLite plan and Seniors Lite plan will be priced at $22.32 (US$17.64) and $31.92 (US$25.23) respectively.
It is hoped that the plans will encourage more seniors to adopt smartphones and "discover the benefits of the digital world," said Johan Buse, SingTel's Vice President of Consumer Marketing.
To further sweeten the deal, customers who sign up for either plans will be able to get their hands on a selection of handsets at no extra charge. Handsets that are up for grabs include the Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 LTE and Nokia Lumia 925.
Free clinics on smartphone technology
Many seniors might be hesitant to sign up for mobile data plans as they are "uncertain about how they will be charged for usage," said Buse.
To address these concerns, SingTel will offer free clinics in collaboration with NTUC U Live to help seniors understand how data plans work and how to check their usage, added Buse.
The clinics will also provide instructions on configuring their handsets, using important functions, and transferring their contact list from their old phone. In addition, participants will receive an introduction to popular social media sites and cyber safety.
