It's time of the year to show your love and care, and that's what Singapore-based infocommunications technology service provider NCS has done towards the end of September 2013.
It has donated 400 refurbished laptops to nine charities under the auspices of the Community Chest. The laptops will facilitate classroom teachings and support the administrative needs of the charities.
The donation from NCS, which is part of SingTel, marks another milestone in an already close working relationship between SingTel and the Community Chest. The SingTel Touching Lives Fund (STLF), which is SingTel's philanthropic programme, has raised over S$24 million.
One of the beneficiaries is the MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School, which will receive 125 laptops with the remaining distributed to the other charities.
Speaking at the donation ceremony at the MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens, Chia Wee Boon, CEO of NCS said: "As part of our community and sustainability efforts, we are glad to utilise the refurbished laptops to meet the teaching and learning needs of students, as well as support the administrative needs of the charities.
Chia added: "We had teams of enthusiastic staff volunteering their time to help refurbish the laptops over a couple of weeks leading to this donation effort. We hope to sustain these efforts and make donating of our refurnished laptops a more regular effort to charities who would find them useful."
Ng Ling Ling, managing director of Community Chest Singapore, said: "We are glad to partner with NCS in this meaningful initiative to help our charities and the beneficiaries. We are appreciative of the SingTel Group for their contributions through SingTel Touching Lives Fund and the many initiatives that have made an impact to the beneficiaries. We look forward to more opportunities in this partnership.
"We are happy to receive the laptops from NCS, and have already identified uses for these laptops. We will be utilising them in our computer classes to teach our students computer skills. We will also be passing some of these laptops to students who do not have a computer at home," said Sharon Ng, Principal, MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School.
