In conjunction with Earth Hour, energy management specialist Schneider Electric has urged Malaysians to use the online Efficiency Quotient (EQ) tool to help improve energy conservation.
Schneider Electric Malaysia country president Soo Pow Leong said the tool is a fundamental guide (available at the company's website), which uses "a quick and easy online questionnaire, and helps Malaysians conduct their own energy management assessment to compare their spending to other users.
The tool also recommends steps to reduce energy costs and improve energy usage efficiency, said Soo. "According to the International Energy Agency, we are the third largest energy consuming nation in the Association of South-East Asian Nations and as our economy continues to grow, so will our energy needs."
"The annual Earth Hour's commitment to build greater awareness of energy efficiency importance stands as a great reminder for all of us to stop the conscious and unconscious energy splurging," he said. "We highly recommend the Efficiency Quotient tool to help educate users about the most effective ways of using energy and help them identify easy steps to lower energy bills."
Soo said that upon completing the survey, the corporate and individual users will receive their energy efficiency 'score' on a rating of 1 to 5 and they can share and compare their scoring against other participant in the survey.
Based on this score, Schneider Electric will provide them with recommendations and access to relevant educational materials including relevant white papers, links and other tools to help guide their energy efficiency improvement process, he said. "Users may also consult Schneider Electric specialists to further assist them to plan and implement technologies, strategies and services to increase business performance and efficiency."
Four-step action plan
Soo said that as well as the Efficiency Quotient tool, Schneider Electric recommends a four-step action plan to achieve the most effective energy management plan for continuous energy efficiency improvement process. Those are the Measure, Fix the Basics, Automate and Monitor steps.
"Schneider Electric encourages everyone to go beyond switching the lights off for 60 minutes during Earth Hour and use this online tool to learn more about sustainable energy conservation," he said. "With the recent hike in electricity tariffs, it is imperative for consumers and businesses to start using energy management tools such as this one to lower their energy bills and increase efficiency."
