Philips Malaysia sets up online store: Blipmy

The new partnership with Xtrategize sees Philips entering the Malaysian e-commerce space.

Electronics manufacturer Philips has formed a partnership with local consulting and technology firm Xtrategize to develop a dedicated Philips online store called Blipmy.

Muhammad Ali Jaleel, country manager for Philips Group of Companies in Malaysia and general manager, Consumer Lifestyle for Philips Malaysia, said that Philips Malaysia was entering the e-commerce space "at an opportune time as the e-commerce market has been growing steadily within Southeast Asia in recent years.

"According to PayPal, in Malaysia alone, the e-commerce market has grown exponentially from RM3.65 billion [US$1.14 billion] in 2013 to RM4.76 billion [US$1.49 billion] in 2014. It is expected to grow to RM5.76 billion [US$1.81 billion] by 2015," said Jaleel.

"Blipmy.com is a result of our shared belief that the e-commerce market is the future of the consumer experience," he said. "We selected Xtrategize as our partner because we believe that they have deep insights and understand the online market in Malaysia - being a homegrown company, and like us, they are committed to doing things differently and more efficiently."

"With this strong partnership, we aim to set a new benchmark for Blipmy as a trusted online store with high quality, original Philips products, consistent delivery and innovative e-commerce ideas for our consumers," said Jaleel.

 Security concerns

Xtrategize co-founder and chief financial officer, Tong Ong, said, "Blipmy is truly a revolutionary ecommerce website that focuses on trust, reliability and convenience - factors that mean the most to e-shoppers in Malaysia, alongside surprise treats and good deals."

"We want online shoppers in Malaysia to truly understand Philips' meaningful innovations and have a holistic experience of how Philips' range of products can improve their lives in the ways that matter - big or small, said Ong, adding that while the local e-commerce market has shown significant growth, security concerns were causing almost 60 percent Malaysians [PayPal survey] to hesitate going online to shop.

"To ensure customers have a worry-free experience on the online store, Philips Malaysia and Xtrategize's main focuses for Blipmy are reliability and trust alongside simplicity and convenience on a secure and scalable platform," he said.

Blipmy will be the first official online distributor for Philips products in the country and will initially offer around 140 best-loved Philips products before expanding to the brand's full range of products coming online in phases till the end of the year.
