Organisations overlook future growth with networking monitoring: Paessler AG

Networking vendor relies on channel partners to educate businesses on the right networking monitoring setup.

One common mistake organisations make with networking monitoring is that they do not consider future growth, according to Paessler AG.

A/NZ channel manager at the networking vendor, Andrew Timms, said a solution may be bought to address a specific task, forgetting that other priorities may be added in the future.

When the organisations return to the vendor or reseller they originally purchased it from, Timms said it can cost three times the original cost to add a service to the existing setup.

"A lot of the time they do not get correctly implemented, they sit there and stagnate for a year or two without anyone using them, with alerts coming through that people are not interested in so they ignore them," he said.

Partners as educators
Paessler AG tries to overcome the foresight challenge by being "all inclusive," and Timms said this is made possible by being one of the few companies that specialises in network monitoring.

Timms adds that that the vendor has been doing a lot of work in educating its partners about the requirements of the networking monitoring market, as well as how to approach it.

In also consists of resellers educating the customers themselves, who may have made mistakes in the past with similar types of installations.

"They often don't know what is possible, and are amazed at what they can monitor," Timms said.

An organisation may start of with a small installation, but Timms said some return to get more once they realise all the different other abilities of the setup.

"We can help them understand what the future requirements are, make sure they have everything they need to move forward, and avoid making a mistake," he said.
