Oracle launches initiative to boost falling User Group membership numbers

Head of the UK User Group recently revealed his own plans to increase dwindling membership.

Plans for an initiative to boost Oracle User Group membership numbers worldwide has been revealed, shortly after the new head of the UK Oracle User Group detailed plans to turn around dwindling membership.

According to the International Oracle User Group Community of Leaders, Oracle will implement a new program to support user group leaders in attracting new sign-ups.

A blog post from the Group Community of Leaders reads: "The User Group Initiative Program will focus on supporting new and innovative user group programs to foster growth and participation in user groups worldwide.

"User Groups are encouraged to focus on new initiatives and campaigns from Oracle and to cooperate and collaborate among other groups where possible."

It continues: "Ultimately the intention is to increase awareness of the value of user group membership throughout Oracle's global customer community."

David Warburton-Broadhurst, the new head of the UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG), told Computerworld UK shortly after his appointment that that the User Group had been experiencing shrinking membership in recent years and he would be introducing a C-level executive track, so as to increase its influence with Oracle.

At the time the UKOUG only had tracks for technical or application focused members.

Warburton-Broadhurst said he wanted to attract big brand names to the group that can address the business challenges and opportunities presented by Oracle implementations.

He said at the time: "[I aim to bring] strong leadership and create a direction in which the User Group wants to go based on our core values, recognising our existing user base, both through the application usage and the technical usage, but also extending the reach of the User Group to C-level executives who have never engaged with UKOUG before."

"I would really like to reach out to that C-level and start to engage with them. Start to run activities and sessions for them, to attract them into the User Group."

Oracle said that the initiative will continue to help the company receive independent customer feedback.

"The Oracle user group community, nearly 500,000 members strong, is a critical source of independent customer feedback and has been a great Oracle partner for many years. Anything we can do to help that community to add to its ranks is good for all Oracle customers. We will continue to work with the user groups around the world to help them get to 1,000,000 members," says Jeb Dasteel, Senior Vice president and Chief Customer Officer
